About This Retreat
Vajradhatu International is a prominent multi-tradition Buddhist centre in Pune, Maharashtra — distinguished by its remarkable roster of visiting teachers drawn from across the Buddhist world. Unlike retreat centres that follow a single teacher or tradition, Vajradhatu is designed as an open platform: it hosts programs in Tibetan Vajrayana, Theravada vipassana, and Buddhist philosophy from teachers of international standing.
Pune — one of India's most educated and culturally active cities — provides an ideal base. The centre draws practitioners from across Maharashtra and beyond for residential programs, day retreats, teaching events, and study groups. Past visiting teachers have included Venerable Tenzin Palmo, Geshe Dorji Damdul (Director of Tibet House Delhi), Geshe Lhakdor, Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche, and Bhante Vimalaramsi — a remarkable range of traditions and lineages.
The centre also hosts study groups, book clubs, and regular meditation classes for Pune-based practitioners — functioning both as a retreat space for visiting teachers and as a community hub for the city's growing Buddhist sangha.

Reviews
Vajradhatu hosts teachers of a calibre that you would normally have to travel to Dharamsala or Bodhgaya to hear. Attending a teaching by Geshe Dorji Damdul here in Pune was an extraordinary privilege. The centre is warm and well-organised, and the Pune Buddhist community it has gathered is genuinely engaged and thoughtful. A real resource for practitioners in Maharashtra.
✓ Teaching Event, Oct 2025
The weekend retreat with Bhante Vimalaramsi at Vajradhatu was my first serious meditation retreat. The TWIM method is remarkably clear and well-suited to beginners. Bhante is incredibly patient and warm. The centre handled everything smoothly — the space was comfortable, meals were good, and the organisation was tight. I came away with a solid foundation in practice that I continue to use daily.
